Filing week is here in the great State of Washington, far earlier then it has been in the past due to an early primary, I just wanted to give a brief look at the folks here in the city of Spokane who are running for public office. Looking at the filings though it is surprising to see that many of the candidates who we expected to take advantage of the free media coverage on the first filing day did not do so. The most notable of these Non-Filers are Mary Verner and Al French, both of whom have an uphill battle to defeat Dennis Hession, the current incumbent mayor of Spokane, this is once again a mistake on the part of the two challengers, how many can they make before this race slips from long-shot to impossible?
After I noticed this plethora of candidates who have filed, some of who I had never heard of before, I decided to check out the PDC website (http://www.pdc.wa.gov/) to find out what sort of money these candidates are raising. Much to my surprise, there are already candidates filed with the PDC for the 2008 Spokane County Commissioners race, both Brian Sayrs and Bill Burke, notable area Democrats, are set to begin raising money for this race. According to the PDC website, Bill can be reached at bill@burkeforcommissioner.com, unfortunately Brian does not have a contact email address up at this time. Best of luck to both of you this early on in the cycle and I’m sure we’ll hear more good news on the local 2008 front soon.
Here are the filers as of 5:00 PM today on the Auditors site:

I apologize for the lateness of this post, I unfortunately think I came down with something and am just recovering enough to sneak out of bed. Over the coming weeks I will be going over each viable candidate with a fine toothed-comb to see what I find out about each. I’d like voters to know the truth behind each candidate and be able to make an informed decision about who to vote for.
