It goes to show how out of touch some local reporters are with reality. This morning Vince Grippi posted an article on his Spokesman Review blog with the title “Eastern Continues to Dominate Local News Scene.” I clicked on it thinking “Hey maybe our local university is doing something unique” or maybe “they finally solved the downtown center question” but no, it is an article about the on-going debacle with Eastern’s Basketball coach. The situation is definitely an embarrassment, but it is hardly news dominating, and hardly deserves a link on the front page of the Spokesman Review’s website, but unfortunately we see this on almost a daily basis throughout the news here in Spokane, inane little stories which anywhere else would get no coverage, or maybe a bi-line, but here in Spokane they get full articles or full segments in the news.
I’m sorry Vince, but there is no way the coaching situation out at eastern is “news dominating” there are far more important issues in the region that need talking about and sports just isn’t one of them. How about remembering the victims of the Moscow sniper? Or what about that dangerous increase in staph cases in the region? Using terms like “dominate” in reference to sports news is irresponsible of you, and part of the reason why so few people pay attention to important news, news that can actually impact their lives. So please sir, I call on you to not embellish trivial situations, try an alternative, how about “Eastern Coaching Debacle Continues” or how about “Eastern’s Embarrassment Continues?”
Sorry for the rant all, more to come later.

We begin our coverage of last night’s CNN-sponsored Republican Presidential Nomination Kerfluffle with these comments from Rudy Giuliani:
“We have great gifts in this country that come to us from God. We have a country in which we have freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom for the individual, the right to elect our own officials. And the reality is that in some of the world, much of the world, that doesn’t exist.”
Freedom of religion is a gift from God. And some people, bad brown people in other places, don’t get as much love from God as we do. Therefore, in God’s name, we should go out there an kill as many bad people as we have to in order to ensure that everyone everywhere has the freedom to choose how much they want to worship Him.
Where did this guy come from? How long ago did he land on Earth? Why don’t his people settle on a mate? If I wanted to live in a country where people would be okay with that kind of argument I’d move to Germany circa 1939. Come on Rudy, quit being a Nazi.
Mitt “the Glove” Romney, though, has a bold, shining vision of the future. What is it? Well let’s go straight to the transcript!
“…The Republican Party is a party of the future and with a vision. Ronald Reagan had a vision for where he was going to take America. We have to once again take people forward.”
Right! We have to start taking the world forward, just like Jesus! Man, he really brought folks together, didn’t he?
Yes, Romney won the night’s Ronald Wilson Reagan Memorial Booby Prize, but it was an interesting exchange. Here’s the breakdown:
Romney: 3
Hunter: 2
Giuliani: 2
McCain: 1
Huckabee: 3*
That’s right, the scoring was very tight, until Former Governor Mike Huckabee, that other man from Hope, disqualified himself when he commemorated the former President’s birthday on the third anniversary of his death. Reagan was born February 6, 1911.
“Today’s the birthday of Ronald Reagan. We all would believe that Ronald Reagan is the one who ended the Cold War and Ronald Reagan is the one who helped bring about the collapse of the Soviet Union.”
Thank you Governor, it’s been interesting.
