Yesterday must have been a very busy day at the county auditor’s office, at the close of business yesterday 16 candidates had filed for the three city council seats that are up for election this year, and a total of five candidates had filed for Mayor. Only two incumbents on the City Council are seeking re-election, Brad Stark and Bob Apple, Rob Crow however is seeking to move on to bigger and better things. He has filed to face Joe Shogan in the council president’s race. In Mr. Crow’s current district however, an old familiar face has popped up on the ballot once more, Mr. Steve Corker has filed for Council District #3.
In Mayoral news, despite what some rumors may have been, Mary Verner has indeed filed to continue her bid to become Mayor of Spokane. It will be interesting to see which of the five candidates for mayor are actually running viable races when the next round of PDC filings are posted. I suspect we shall see Mayor Hession with a considerable fundraising lead over what are considered the other two “top tier” candidates.
I think this year will be an important year for local politics, it will either reaffirm the course that city officials have decided upon, or it will drastically change the cities course. Even though this is on off-year election it is still an important one, the city council and the mayor make many decisions that impact us everyday. If we make a mistake in who we select we could find our standard of living here in Spokane degraded.
Like I said in the previous entry I will be attempting to talk to each candidate, either via email or on the phone so that I can give my readers the best information possible for the upcoming election.
That’s all for now,

Hello! I saw candidate, Mary Verner, meeting people with 5 or 6 volunteers today at her Rainbow Fair Booth in Riverfront Park. I didn’t see any of the other candidates with any presence at all, except for Dennis Hession who was walking around with his wife for a short period of time. Mr. Hession is to be commended for his brief appearance but Ms. Verner was ACTIVELY campaigning from a booth with many volunteers. The WORDING in your blog today carries an implication that Mary Verner’s registration for the Mayoral election comes as a surprise but my observations of her ACTIONS at the fair MORE than suggest that her campaign is far more active than the others . Your content seemingly reveals that information being entered on your technically outstanding website may be from hearsay sources rather than firsthand research. I’m truly impressed by your website designer and generally enjoy your content. Your coverage of the Mayoral race seems to be a single exception to otherwise excellent quality material!

Mr. Tann,
If you note, I clearly stated that it was a rumor that she may not file and I clearly stated she did. I had heard the rumor prior to her filing and did not post it because thats what it was. Rumor. I just stated that a rumor was false. I personally never gave it any credence and expected her to file.
