I noticed in a comment I received yesterday that I am being accused of spreading hearsay. I did not spread the rumor that Mary Verner would not file. I merely noted in the aftermath that it had been a rumor. Regardless of that, if I were to choose to post rumors it the prerogative of this blogger to do so.
In a conversation I recently had with Jim Camden regarding content he spoke of old style journalistic practices of verifying sources and ensuring that the information he is writing about is true and accurate. Bloggers however are not professional journalists we write as a hobby, we write what we enjoy and we write what we hear. If I didn’t enjoy what I’m writing I wouldn’t be writing this at all.
At this point everything I have posted has been true. Not speculation. I chose, like I said, not to post speculation, and mainly because it had at that moment zero impact on anything. If I hear a rumor that I think people want to know about, I may post it, I may not. Sometimes if I post the information it may lead others to confirm or deny the information, and if I am wrong I’m not going to be afraid to call foul on myself. I will gladly post a correction. I do not have an axe to grind with Ms. Verner. I have given her multiple opportunities to respond to these posts and have received nothing in response. She is taking the John Kerry approach to this and not dignifying the allegations with a response (Good for her, but how far did it get Kerry?).
As I have said multiple times, I want to give each candidate a chance to present themselves. I am in the process of drafting a questionaire for the candidates, that way each of you can read what they think. I’d love some suggestions for what to ask, if you have anything shoot me an email.
I would also like to take a moment to welcome a new blogger to Spokompton (possibly somebody heeding my call to action?), he has asked to be identified as Bravo. He will begin posting sometime in the next few days.
